Sounds like a fun club to belong to doesn't it? Well, technically, it is actually book club. We met last night at a friend's house. At one point, one of our husbands suggested we call it "snack club". So what if we like to surround ourselves with delicious and not so nutritious food and drink while we discuss the book? Women are like that. It gives us a chance to try out that new recipe we have been dying to try, or make that favorite that everyone loves. Usually. Because last night I arrived at my friends house a half hour late after dropping L off at church and scrambling my way through the store trying to find a dessert that looked and tasted great. The Triple Chocolate Bundt Cake summoned me. I considered going home first and putting it on one of my platters to claim it as my own, but I thought better of that. And good thing too because it wasn't all that delicious and I wouldn't have wanted to even pretend that I made such a concoction that calls itself a cake.
Perhaps this is why the suggestion to change our name to the snack club came about. I just spent the entire first paragraph rambling about a cake that I didn't even make and haven't even mentioned the book yet. Maybe it is because I didn't read the book. I didn't even open the book. I didn't even get the book. Or attempt to try to find it. I think that I am going to be kicked out of book club if I don't start shaping up...first I bring a store made cake that doesn't even taste good, then I don't read the book. What's next, I just call in and they put me on speaker phone?
My one redemption was that I did arrive with Halle Bands in hand, so I think that was the only thing that saved me. That and the fact that I allowed them to take a few home for themselves and their daughters. Attempting to bribe my way into staying in the book club. Sad, very sad.
The next book we are going to read is "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. Have any of you read it? I may need to know just in case I get into a pinch and need a cliff notes version so I can fake it next time. Although I have until September 22 so I should be just fine...
